FO: Ishbel Shawl
Let’s hear it for almost instant gratification projects! This was a super quick knit, it would have been finished much faster if I didn’t take the time to fiddle with the charts to use up as much of the yarn as I could. I ended up with ABABA, skipped chart C entirely, and had to skip the last two rows of chart D. I considered using yarn from a different color to work all the charts, but decided against it. For the next Ishbel (you betcha I’m going to make more!) I’ll probably just stick with small stockinette and small lace, unless I have more than 440 yards of yarn.
Pattern: “Ishbel” by Ysolda Teague [Ravel it!]
Yarn: KnitPicks Shadow Kettle Dyed in bordeaux, one skein.
Needles: 3.5mm (US 4) KnitPicks Options, 3.5mm (US 4) Signature Needles
Finished size: 60″ x 30″ after blocking
Start date: July 28, 2009.
Finish date: August 7, 2009.
I didn’t like the way the centre stitch stopped in the last charts, so I just kept going with it. It may not be perfect, but I like it, and I think it looks OK. I think this is an alteration I’ll keep for future Ishbels, but I might have to retool the stitch arrangements a bit.
I want to try another one of these in the pink ColourMart Silk 32/120NM DK weight I have sitting in my stash. It’s DK weight, so I’d probably move up a couple needle sizes (I’ve got some 4.5mm Zephyr Options tips heading my way from KnitPicks) and make it nice and big. I still haven’t knitted anything with the silk, so we’ll see how it turns out.
