TV, writing

hey, stop putting shit in the coffee!

I’ve developed a bad habit of staying up way too late, even on school nights, and subsequently, have been super tired most of the week. I was going to try and remedy that this weekend, but then I started a marathon of The Good Wife season 1 (because The Slash Report has mentioned it repeatedly, and I was intrigued) and of course I fell into a loop of “just one more episode and then I’ll go to bed” followed by “nooo, can’t stop now, must find out what happens next!” And the next thing I knew, it was after 2am, and I was thiiiiis close to passing out. So I slept for like, ten hours, which of course means that it’s almost 2am again, and I’m wide awake, and marathoning more episodes. *facepalm*

While watching the show, I’ve also been poking at the most recent story I’ve started, in which Alex is a mob boss’ daughter who takes over one of his businesses (as a way of learning the ropes of the family business). It’s a bit slow going, because trying to write all of the characters as completely morally gray versions of themselves is a little bit hard. It’s the same problem I’ve had with what I’ve been calling the mirrorverse au, where they’re all the antithesis of their canon alter egos. It’s an interesting effort to write these versions of the characters, picking out characteristics that need to change or stay the same across the different universes.

Anyway, the mafia/HBIC au is kinda fun to play with, because not only are the characters tarnished and somewhat corrupted versions of themselves, Oliver and Henry have also been genderswitched and made into sisters. I haven’t decided if they’re twins, or if Henry’s the older of the two, but it’s kinda cool to play with how much they change and how much they still resemble their original, canon versions.
